Exterior Fire Fighter Module 6 Skills Evaluation Overview
This page contains the points you will be evaluated on for your EFF Mod 6 Skills. It does not give you the answers but will give you focus. Read through it and if unsure about any points then hit the books for a refresher. If time permits, contact a fire fighter to clarify and get answers to any of your questions. When you have finished your lessons, you will be examined, off island, on the follow skills:
Vehicle Fires
- PPE requirements
- Fuel types and identification
- Controlling leaks
- Deploying hose lines with environmental awareness (uphill / upwind)
- Setting pattern & bleeding lines
- 1st target: using full reach, cool tanks and undercarriage
- 2nd target: using reach, initial exterior & interior fire control
- 3rd target: fog & approach (safety concerns)
- advancing hose lines
- Use of modified fog for interior suppression
- opening vehicle (interior, truck, hood) with fog protection & extinguishing (safety concerns)
- Overhaul
- Retreat (hose lines, tripping, hazards)
Extinguish Class ‘A’ materials (container fires)
- PPE requirements
- Hazard recognition
- Deploying hose lines with environmental awareness (uphill / upwind)
- Setting pattern & bleeding lines
- Sets nozzle flow (gpm) as appropriate or as directed
- 1st target: using full reach, cool exposures (if appropriate)
- 2nd target: using full reach, cools container exterior
- 3rd target: directs stream into container (if possible)
- 4th target: fog & approach (safety concerns)
- Open’s container using appropriate safety measures (tools / cover)
- Directs stream into container (cover)
- Broke up materials (tools / stream)
- Retreat (safety w/ fog, hose lines, tripping hazards)
- Overhaul / is it completely out? / any hidden fire?
- Origin determination (burn patterns)
Illumination of Scene
- PPE requirements
- Deploy the generator
- In service? (Service schedule?)
- Power cords? (In service / safety concerns?)
- GFI Equipped?
- Illuminates scene safely
- Shutdown, servicing and safety
