Here’s an easy way to support us

The CVRD board is happy to hear statements of support with regard to the new firehall. It obviously won’t change the results of the AAP, but if it did fail, it might ensure that the question will at least go to a referendum instead of the project being cancelled altogether.

Yes, its possible that the CVRD board could completely cancel the project if they feel that the negative responses were in sufficient numbers to indicate a lack of general acceptance. If they were to get messages of support for the project it would suggest a more even split and make it less likely that we would have to start all over.

  1. After all of a decade and longer we on Hornby need a new fire hall with adequate facilities for all our local volunteers. More delay is unacceptable.
Some community members are worried about how things will be paid for over the years with taxation. But this is a minority and a normal human reaction to an unpredictable future.
People here love and support the fire hall and it’s proposed renewal. I think I speak in concert with the majority here on our Island.
    Thank you

  2. Dear James.
Just want to let you know I have lived on Hornby Island for 36 years.. I own my home,, so am a taxpayer.
I am very in favour of our dear volunteer firefighters getting the new firehall they have been working so hard to get…for safety.for space required ,,for morale..I am totally in support for the new fire hall building.
    Thank you for your time

  3. I am writing in support of the need for a new firehall…I know there has been some debate over issues involving this, but mostly it was with the process not with the actual need for a new firehall. Having been a full time resident for forty years I have seen much dedication from many many volunteers working with a firehall that is not up to standard. It is time for a new firehall and my husband and I fully support this.

  4. I believe that the fire hall is an absolute must in this community, we may pay a bit more for taxes per year but it provides first response relief for disaster, fires, heart attacks etc. There is a lot of complaints about the cost of the hall, however the lives that may be saved far outweights the $ we have to pay to support the hall and volunteers.
So people have to buy 1-2 packs of smokes less a year, or not buy a bottle of spirts from the liquour store to get hammered one night. I am more than willing to pay the taxes required. It it the communities responsibiliy support the health and protection of their community. By not supporting the fire hall they not providing support to their community in the event of a disaster.
